Niuland district administration held an awareness programme on SIR 2026, highlighting voter enrolment, electoral roll verification and polling station shortages in Aghunaqa.

DIMAPUR — The Niuland district administration organised an awareness programme on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls 2026 at the DC’s conference hall on August 21.
According to a DIPR report, the programme was aimed at creating awareness among the public about the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls being undertaken by the Election Commission of India.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Niuland, Athsangla, in her welcome address, said the objective was to ensure that every eligible citizen was included in the electoral roll while removing ineligible and duplicate voters.
She clarified that although Niuland is a full-fledged administrative district, it is functioning without a separate election office.
All election-related matters concerning Niuland continue to be handled by Chümoukedima district, in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland.
ADC and ERO, Chümoukedima, T Lemlila Sangtam, while providing an overview of SIR 2026, urged the leaders present to ensure that no eligible voter was left out and that all information furnished to election officials was accurate. She said clean elections were possible only with a clean electoral roll.

ADC and ERO, Medziphema, James Swu, highlighted the implementation of SIR 2005 and SIR 2026.
He urged the members to assist and cooperate with electoral officials and ensure the enrolment of all eligible voters at the earliest.
Swu also clarified that during the ongoing Enumeration Form (EF) drive, no eligible voter should be denied enrolment for failure to produce documents.
He stated that a passport was compulsory, while other required documents would have to be produced only if election officials summoned an individual for clarification.
Meyietele, Assistant Programmer, Election Branch, briefed the participants on the SIR schedule, enumeration process and activities to be undertaken.
EAC and AERO of 4 Ghaspani-1, Omegali, chaired the programme.
During the discussion session, the shortage of polling stations in the Aghunaqa area was also deliberated upon.
