The Niuland DPDB met to address road repairs, educational infrastructure, and Land Resources schemes including coffee and rubber development.
DIMAPUR — The Niuland District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) held its monthly meeting on July 28 at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner (DC) of Niuland under the chairmanship of DC and Vice-Chairman of DPDB Niuland, T L Kiusumong Tikhir.
While reviewing the minutes of the previous meeting, the members discussed the ceiling repair of the multipurpose hall-cum-auditorium at Government High School, Aghunaqa, alongside road and bridge connectivity issues in the Aghunaqa area.
According to a DIPR report, to redress these issues, the board decided on a compulsory contribution of INR 5,000 from all heads of departments, with members allowed to contribute more if willing.
The extra assistant commissioner (EAC) of Aghunaqa, who is also the border magistrate, has been given the responsibility to collect the contributions before August 15. The board stressed that a detailed report on the utilisation of the collected funds and an update on the work done should be presented in the next DPDB meeting.

Chessore community repair monsoon-damaged Hukir-Chessore road
A detailed presentation on road connectivity in the Aghunaqa area was made by the Public Works Department (Roads and Bridges) [PWD (R&B)], Dimapur Division, covering roads under the Niuland district PWD (R&B), the current status of other district and village roads, and the challenges posed by soil erosion. Following deliberations, the board approved the proposal for the Nitozu-Pihekhu road (6.00 km) and forwarded it to the concerned department for examination along with the concept note and Detailed Project Report (DPR).
The chairman of the Niuland Town Council also apprised the board about the deplorable condition of the road stretch between 4th Mile, New Showuba and Niuland. Taking note of the matter, the DC urged the Urban Development and PWD (R&B) departments to take responsibility for the maintenance of the road and prioritise filling potholes in selected areas.
The board also discussed and approved various schemes under the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) 2026-2027 for the Ghaspani-I Assembly Constituency.
Additionally, District Project Officer (DPO) of Land Resources, V Vikugha Sema, made a PowerPoint presentation on the department's activities. He highlighted various schemes, including the LPAKSY-BDC, North Eastern Council (NEC) projects, state schemes, and Rural Infrastructure Development Fund.
The DPO informed the board that the department is focusing on key developmental activities, such as coffee, rubber, and arecanut development, as well as springshed management.
