Niuland Area Sports Association celebrates golden jubilee

DIMAPUR — The Niuland Area Sports Association (NASA) marked its golden jubilee from November 3 to the 8th at Hovishe Village Local Ground, Niuland, on the theme “Hope, peace, and unity”.

According to an update, the week-long celebration brought together GBs, leaders, elders, players, and well-wishers from 22 villages under Niuland.

The grand finale of the jubilee celebration featured a football championship match between P Vizheto and K Hetoi teams. In a closely contested match, P Vizheto emerged champions with a narrow 1–0 victory over K Hetoi.

The closing ceremony was attended by the guest of honour, Isawoto Zhimomi, president of the Niuland District GB’s Association, who congratulated NASA for achieving 50 years of sporting excellence and community spirit.

“This milestone is not only a celebration of sports but also of vision, perseverance, and unity,” he said, paying tribute to the pioneers whose sacrifices and leadership laid the foundation of the association.

Highlighting the district’s progress, Zhimomi noted that Niuland now comprises five major areas—Aghunaqa, Khaghaboto, Kuhuboto, the Ato area, and the Niuland area. He stated that the Niuland area, consisting of 22 villages, serves as the connecting route between all Naga districts and neighbouring states such as Assam, extending even toward Myanmar.

He urged all villages to extend full cooperation to the district administration and called upon political parties to work collectively for advancement in all developmental fields, particularly sports. Expressing gratitude, he acknowledged the chief minister, the minister for Road and Bridges (PWD), the minister for PHED, Ghaspani-1, and the advisor for Urban Development, Ghaspani-2, for their efforts toward uplifting Niuland.

He further mentioned that the Niuland District GB’s Association maintains close coordination with the district administration, political leaders, law enforcement agencies, and the police to promote unity and strengthen the district’s development.

Zhimomi emphasised that sports play a vital role in building discipline, teamwork, and responsibility among youths. He encouraged young players to embrace sportsmanship to lead positive lives and contribute to a peaceful and progressive society.

The guest of honour witnessed the final match and later presented prizes to the winners and runners-up, congratulating all teams for their performances and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
