DIMAPUR — In a pioneering initiative aimed at opening global employment avenues for the youth of Nagaland, NITI Dimapur Centre on Friday organised a free awareness workshop on ‘Preparing for working in Japan’ at its centre.

In a press release, NITI Dimapur stated that the workshop drew an enthusiastic audience of over 100 students, academicians, and administrators, all eager to explore career pathways in Japan— a nation with cultural values, food habits, lifestyle, and even physical characteristics that deeply resonate with the Naga community.

The event was organized in collaboration with and supported by AOTS (The Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships), a renowned Japanese organisation that promotes global skills development and cultural exchange. The AOTS is implementing the programme on behalf of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Government of Japan's JEC (Japanese Endowed Courses) lecture series.

The workshop was led by Prof. Tomio Isogai, a Japanese expert and mentor who has long championed Indo-Japan youth collaboration. Prof. Isogai addressed the audience on Japan’s growing demand for young, skilled professionals, and how Nagaland’s youth—with their agility, hospitality, and eagerness to grow—are uniquely suited to succeed in Japan.

He was joined by Mohita Modgill, AOTS JEC Coordinator, and Pursenla Jamir, Manager at AOTS India office.

Together, they shared practical guidance on how young Nagas can build successful careers in Japan through Japanese language learning, adapting to Japanese work culture, and participating in government-supported skill programmes.

Earlier, the event began with a welcome address by Rishav Sethi, CEO of NITI Nagaland. He emphasised the importance of global exposure and NITI’s mission to empower students through skill-based education that transcends borders.

Ajay Sethi, Managing Director of NITI Nagaland, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Japanese dignitaries and all participants. He reaffirmed NITI’s commitment to building bridges between Northeast India and international career opportunities.

The workshop was anchored by Ujala Dey.

Leaders and representatives from partner institutions, including Norman Putsure College and Pilgrim Higher Secondary School, also attended and expressed interest in future collaborations that could prepare more students for global workplaces.

“This initiative marks a transformative moment for the youth of Nagaland—ushering in a future of international mobility, skill empowerment, and meaningful cultural exchange,” the release stated.

Regional Employment Exchange Officer, Imli Mongzar; MD of Norman Putsure College, Sani Putsure; Administrator of Pilgrim HSS, Bithungo Kikon  and Principal Kaini Khekho Kikon; Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre’s President Zubenthung Humtsoe, also spoke on the occasion besides the attendee students.
