Nirmala Sitharaman assures assistance for Internally Displaced Persons during Khemchand Singh’s New Delhi meetings.

IMPHAL — Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has assured Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh that the Centre will provide assistance for the rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons (IDPs), according to the Chief Minister’s secretariat.
The assurance was given when Khemchand Singh, accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers Losii Dikho and Nemcha Kipgen, called on the Union Finance Minister at her office in New Delhi on Monday.
“This is the first time Khemchand met the Union Finance Minister after he took over as the state’s chief minister on February 4 last,” the CM’s Secretariat in a statement.
“He was accompanied by his two deputy chief ministers, Losii Dikho of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), and Nemcha Kipgen of the BJP. Kipgen, who hails from Kangpokpi district, is the first woman deputy chief minister of Manipur.”
Sitharaman also assured the chief minister of all help to revive the financial health and economy of the state when Khemchand urged the Union Minister to enhance the financial assistance to the state so as to achieve the goal of inclusive growth.

Terming the meeting as constructive, the chief minister thanked the Union Finance Minister for giving a patient hearing to the state’s problems and conveyed his gratitude for her continued support and commitment towards the progress and prosperity of the state.
Khemchand also called on Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at his office in New Delhi. He was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho

During the meeting, Rajnath Singh assured all assistance from the defence ministry in any endeavour of the state government. The chief minister also urged Rajnath Singh to raise one Territorial Army battalion for Manipur.
Khemchand also called on the BJP National President Nitin Nabin at the BJP office in New Delhi on February 23, wherein the two leaders discussed matters relating to the strengthening of the state party unit.
Nabin also asked the chief minister to speed up the state government’s effort on the resettlement of the IDPs and assured all possible help from the party’s side in this effort.
On February 22, Khemchand, who has been in New Delhi since February 21, also called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi. He was accompanied by his two deputy chief ministers.
The Union Home Minister discussed with the three Manipuri leaders the steps taken up by the new government to remove the barriers between different communities, the CM’s Secretariat sources said.
Shah directed the chief minister to give utmost importance to the rehabilitation of IDPs and assured all possible help in this task to bring peace and normalcy in the state.
He further assured the chief minister that all necessary help will be provided by the Centre for the overall development and progress of Manipur.
