Centre handed Khopanala explosion investigation to NIA, citing national security concerns and the gravity of the July 13 incident
DIMAPUR — The Centre has handed over the investigation into the July 13 explosion at Khopanala in Chümoukedima (A) village to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
In a press release issued on Tuesday, Nagaland Police informed that the Ministry of Home Affairs, through a communication dated July 27, entrusted the investigation of the case registered at Chümoukedima Police Station to the NIA under the provisions of the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008.
According to the Centre, it formed the opinion that the incident involved a scheduled offence under the NIA Act. Exercising powers under Sections 6 (5) and 8 of the Act, the Union government directed the country's premier anti-terror agency to take over the investigation, considering the seriousness of the case and its national security implications.
Nagaland Police added that the state government and the police will coordinate with the NIA to facilitate the handover of the case in accordance with the law.
