A two-week handloom exhibition of the Nagaland Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. underway in Dimapur.

DIMAPUR — A two-week handloom exhibition, organised by the Nagaland Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation (NHHDC) and sponsored by the office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi, got underway at Urban Haat in Dimapur on Wednesday.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Prasielie Pienyu, chairman of NHHDC, as the guest of honour.
An update from NHHDC stated that a total of 60 participants including artisans and weavers from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and various districts of Nagaland are participating in the exhibition by showcasing diverse collection of handloom, khadi and handicraft products that embody the region’s rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship.
In his welcome address, Y Lipongse Thongtsar, managing director of NHHDC, encouraged participants to be creative, strive for excellence and uphold traditional craftsmanship through hard work, honesty and passion. He also emphasised the role of exhibition in fostering market linkages and creating opportunities for the economic empowerment of artisans and weavers.

In his speech, Pienyu emphasised the need to preserve traditional crafts and promote self-reliance among artisans and weavers. He commended the office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, for sponsoring the expo and also appreciated NHHDC Ltd. for their continued efforts in promoting the handloom sector.
He further encouraged artisans to pursue creativity and innovation, while he also urged the public to support and promote locally made handloom and handicraft products.
