DIMAPUR — The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced modern LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches on two train services in the Northeast—the Agartala–Dharmanagar–Agartala Passenger and the Silchar–Agartala–Silchar Express—as part of its ongoing rail modernisation drive.
The upgraded LHB rake of the Agartala–Dharmanagar–Agartala Passenger Train (No. 55675/55676) was flagged off on January 1 at Agartala Railway Station by Rajib Bhattacharjee, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), and Mina Rani Sarkar, MLA.

Similarly, the Silchar–Agartala–Silchar Express (No. 15664/15663) equipped with LHB coaches was flagged off at Silchar Railway Station by Kanad Purkayastha, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Parimal Suklabaidya, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), and Dipayan Chakraborty, MLA, in the presence of senior railway officials.
According to NFR, the induction of LHB coaches marks a significant upgrade from conventional ICF coaches. The new coaches are equipped with enhanced safety features, including anti-climbing mechanisms, improved braking systems and superior suspension, aimed at providing safer and smoother journeys.

The coaches also offer improved interiors, better seating arrangements and higher maintenance standards, which the railway said would enhance passenger comfort and overall travel experience. The upgrade is expected to benefit daily commuters, long-distance passengers and tourists, while strengthening rail connectivity between Tripura, Assam and neighbouring regions.
NFR stated that the move is part of Indian Railways’ broader effort to modernise its rolling stock and improve passenger-centric services, and reaffirmed its commitment to upgrading amenities, operational efficiency and service reliability across the region.
