The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights submitted a draft State Action Plan to safeguard Internally Displaced Persons children in Bishnupur district.

IMPHAL — The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) on Friday submitted the draft State Action Plan for the protection of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) children to the Bishnupur district administration.
The draft plan was handed over to Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur, Toijam Opendro by MCPCR chairperson Keisham Pradipkumar during a day-long multi-stakeholder convergence meeting-cum-declaration of the State Action Plan for IDP children, held at the Mini Secretariat Complex in Bishnupur.
The meeting, held on the theme Protection Mechanism and Transitional Support for IDP Children, was jointly organised by MCPCR, New Life Foundation (NLF) Manipur and the Bishnupur district administration.

It was chaired by Pradipkumar and attended by ADC Opendro, Superintendent of Police Th. Shangkar Deba, Chief Medical Officer Dr. L Raichandra, block development officers, district-level officers, and representatives of civil society organisations and child-focused non-governmental organisations.
According to MCPCR, more than 20,000 children are among the over 50,000 people displaced by the ethnic conflict in Manipur that began on May 3, 2023.
Officials said the meeting focused on reviewing achievement reports submitted by the District Child Protection Unit and other stakeholders, observations from civil society organisations, presentation of the draft State Action Plan, and commitments made by the district administration. Recommendations and observations from the MCPCR were also shared.
While presenting their reports, district-level officers highlighted measures taken by the administration for the protection and welfare of IDP children through various line departments.
These included child welfare programmes under different schemes of the District Social Welfare Office, educational support provided by the Zonal Education Office, sanitation facilities facilitated by the Public Health Engineering Department, medical and healthcare services extended by the Chief Medical Officer’s office, and safety and security measures ensured by the district police.
