DC Niuland bans firecrackers
DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner of Niuland, Sara S Jamir, has banned the manufacture, sale or usage of any type of firecrackers within Niuland district with immediate effect. In an order on Friday, the DC stated that bursting firecracker of any type is responsible for increasing air pollution and related illness, including sore throat, breathing issue, cough and noise pollution, causing undue disturbance to the public/offices, harming humans, animals and environment. Defaulters will be penalised under relevant section of the law and fine of INR 5000 levied on those found violating the order.
Organisations condole Zhimo’s passing
DIMAPUR — The Kuki Inpi Nagaland (KIN) and Joint Council Forum (JCF) comprising Middle Point, Churches Colony and NST Colony, have condoled the demise of Shikaho Zhimo, president of the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH). In a condolence message, the KIN stated that Zhimo was “more than a leader by position; he was a man of humility, warmth, and quiet strength.” “His life was marked by sincere dedication to his people, a deep sense of responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to unity and mutual respect among communities.” In a separate message, the JCF stated that Zhimo’s “exemplary leadership, dedication and service to the Sümi community and beyond will be remembered with great respect and gratitude.” Meanwhile, the NPF Minority Wing also condoled the death of Shikaho Zhimomi. “His passing has left an irreplaceable void in the Sumi community in particular and among the people of Nagaland in general,” the NPF minority wing stated.

NNC/FGN (Adinno) warns imposters
DIMAPUR — The NNC/FGN has clarified that Mathungo, who was arrested in Kohima on December 9 on charges of illegal taxation, is not a member of the FGN or holding the post of deputy chaplee kilonser, as claimed by him. In a press release, the FGN asserted that there is only one NNC/FGN led by Adinno Phizo as the president of NNC and Kezha Angami as the Kedahge of the FGN. Any other persons or groups claiming to be NNC/FGN are “gangs of parasite that need to be weeded out of a civil society like ours,” it stated. “Any gangs or groups operating in the name of NNC/FGN will be met with the full and harsh force of our country’s legally established laws.”
NU faculty receives research award
DIMAPUR — Dr. Rumi Dhar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Law, Nagaland University, received the Best Paper Presentation at the first Asia Pacific Conference on Engineering, Education, Social Science and Humanities (APCEESH 2025) held in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 15 and the 16th. In an update, the NU informed that from among the international participants, Dr. Dhar's research paper titled “Regulation of transborder data flows under data protection and privacy law: Past, present and future,” co-authored with Sonia Nath, was selected for the recognition. “The achievement reflects the authors' unwavering commitment to meaningful legal research and academic discourse,” it stated.
