DDMA Chümoukedima discusses monsoon preparedness
DIMAPUR — The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Chümoukedima held its first quarterly and monsoon preparedness meeting at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Polan John, was attended by heads of departments and representatives from various agencies. According to a DIPR report, discussions centred on preparedness measures and coordinated strategies ahead of the ensuing monsoon season. Departments presented their respective action plans on pre-monsoon preparedness. The discussions focused on disaster response mechanisms, flood prevention measures, road connectivity, power supply management, healthcare preparedness, water supply, food and essential commodities, and other emergency response arrangements.
State Museum to offer free entry on World Museum Day
DIMAPUR — The Department of Art and Culture will observe International Museum Day 2026 at the State Museum in Kohima on May 18 in line with the global initiative of the International Council of Museums. According to a DIPR report, the theme for International Museum Day 2026 is "Museums uniting a divided world", highlighting the role of museums in promoting cultural dialogue, preserving identity, encouraging knowledge-sharing, and fostering peace and harmony among diverse communities. To mark the occasion, the department has announced free entry for all visitors to the State Museum in Kohima on May 18 and 19.
Mini legal services camp in Peren on May 16
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NALSA), in collaboration with the Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) and the district administration of Peren, will organise a mini legal services camp at the Peren Town Hall on May 16. According to an update, after the formal programme, stalls will be inaugurated where beneficiaries and the general public can avail themselves of various services provided by different departments. The services include free health and eye check-ups, free registration and correction of Aadhaar cards, digital registration of birth certificates, and free awareness about legal rights. Free legal consultation and legal services will also be provided. Additionally, the camp will offer free awareness about various departmental schemes, registration of ration cards by the DCSO office, distribution of saplings by the DFO office, and free HIV testing. The Social Welfare Department will distribute free sanitary pads, alongside creating awareness about schemes related to women and children and loan schemes provided by financial institutions and banks.
Nagaland Archery Association announces AGM
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Archery Association has announced the convening of its annual general meeting (AGM) for the calendar year 2026-2027 at the Chekrovolu Motivational Hall, Nagaland Olympic Association headquarters, Kohima, at 1 pm on May 22. All office bearers and executive members of the association, along with presidents and secretaries of all affiliated district associations, have been requested to attend the meeting, according to an update from Asalie Peseyie, Secretary of the Nagaland Archery Association.
ASUD concerned over NEET question paper leaks
DIMAPUR — The Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) has expressed deep concern over the recent reports and allegations surrounding irregularities and question paper leaks in the NEET-UG examination process. In a press release, the union stated that NEET-UG is one of the most competitive examinations in the country, and many students from Nagaland dedicate years of hard work, sacrifice, and unwavering discipline in pursuit of a medical career. The union noted that any compromise to the integrity and transparency of the examination process is profoundly disturbing. It therefore urged the concerned authorities, including the National Testing Agency and investigative agencies, to conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial inquiry into the matter and ensure that all those found responsible are held accountable under the law.
Ayushman Student Coverage Mission meeting held in Mokokchung
DIMAPUR — A meeting on the “100 days Ayushman Student Coverage Mission: Registration and card generation camp” was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) conference hall in Mokokchung on Thursday. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Ajit Kumar Verma, DC and Chairman of the District Implementation Unit for Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana/Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme in Mokokchung. On the occasion, the DC stressed the importance of coordination among departments and educational institutions for the successful implementation of the mission within the stipulated timeline. The discussion focused on the number of students in schools and colleges, the identification of uncovered or left-out students, and the preparation of schedules for school and college visits for Ayushman card generation.
Peren fish farmers receive training on best practices
DIMAPUR — A day-long training programme on “Your pond’s health is your wealth: Best practices in pond management” for 40 fish farmers was inaugurated at the community hall in Beisumpuikam village in Peren on Thursday. Beisumpuikam is a model village adopted by the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) of Peren. According to a DIPR report, addressing the farmers, District Fishery Officer C Dory Yanthan stated that the training is being taken up under Extension and Training, State Plan (2025-26). She stressed that investment is key to boosting fish growth, noting that fish farming is a business which requires strategic investment in quality seed, feed, and a healthy pond. During the inaugural session, Neimelu Noswe sensitised the participants on the National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP) and the KCC loan scheme. The department also distributed water testing kits to the participating farmers.
PTBC holds fellowship with district officers
DIMAPUR — The Phek Town Baptist Church (PTBC) organised a fellowship programme with district heads of offices at its conference hall on May 13. According to an update, the purpose of the fellowship programme was to strengthen trust among the responsible officers of the different departments posted in the Phek district and the church leaders for the upliftment of Phek. Rhosietho Ngouri, Deputy Commissioner of Phek, extended his appreciation and gratitude to the leadership of the Phek Town Baptist Church for organising the fellowship, which is the first of its kind. Encouraging the officers, the DC asserted that a government job is to serve the people with dedication and uplift the welfare of the district.
Consumer awareness programme held at Lephori
DIMAPUR — The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, Phek, in collaboration with the Lephori Village Women Society, organised a consumer awareness programme at the Lephori village council hall in Phek on Thursday. According to a DIPR report, T Aimong, Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, Phek, spoke on consumer rights, legal metrology standards, and the importance of checking quality certifications such as FSSAI, ISI, and Hallmark before purchasing products. He encouraged consumers, especially women, to become informed buyers and active participants in promoting accountability in the marketplace.
