Nagaland to observe Earth Hour on March 28
DIMAPUR — The Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Nagaland, has issued a notification to mark the milestone of 20 years of Earth Hour, as requested by the World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF-India), to support its observance across the state on March 28. The landmark Earth Hour will be held from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm to create "The biggest hour for Earth". The department appealed to the public to show support for the planet and raise awareness of the environmental issues affecting it by switching off all non-essential lights in all offices, workplaces, and homes from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm on Saturday to observe Earth Hour.
DC Mokokchung issues directives for by-election
DIMAPUR — In view of the upcoming by-election to the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency, Ajit Kumar Verma, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DC and DEO) of Mokokchung, has issued a strict directive regarding the stationing of government personnel. According to a DIPR report, the order, effective immediately, mandates that all heads of departments (HoDs) and government officials or staff assigned to election duties within the Mokokchung district must remain at their respective stations. This measure has been taken to ensure the smooth and efficient conduct of all election-related activities. According to the notification, any officer or staff member required to leave the station under unavoidable circumstances must first obtain written permission from the DC and DEO. The administration warned that non-compliance with this order will be viewed seriously, and strict action will be initiated against defaulters as per relevant rules. The directive will remain in force until further notice.
Power Department announces shutdown
DIMAPUR — The Department of Power has announced a shutdown of the 33kV AP1/Medziphema Transmission Feeder on March 26 from 6 am to 11 am and from March 27 to March 28 between 6 am and 10 am. According to an update from the executive engineer of the Transmission Division, Dimapur, the shutdown is being availed to facilitate the relocation of poles and stringing of conductors at the Tsiedukhru range (Pagala Pahar) area. These infrastructures have been affected and are on the verge of collapse due to soil erosion. It was mentioned that all consumers under the Medziphema sub-division will be affected during this shutdown. The department, while acknowledging the inconvenience caused to the consumers, also requested cooperation from all.
NWHD to organise career guidance seminar
DIMAPUR — The Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) will organise a career guidance seminar in collaboration with Christian Higher Secondary School (CHSS) under the aegis of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao at the CHSS Auditorium in Dimapur at 10 am on March 26. According to an update, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, will attend the occasion as the guest of honour. The seminar will feature Ranjan K Baruah, a skill trainer, career mentor, motivational speaker, and former Advisor to the Skill Employment and Entrepreneurship Department (SEED), Bodoland Territorial Council (2021 to 2025). He is a recipient of the National Youth Award (2012 to 13) and the Bodoland Achievers Award 2025 for his contribution to youth development as the resource person from Guwahati. The seminar aims to provide students with valuable guidance on career choices, skill development, and future opportunities, with a special focus on empowering young minds.
Skills development workshop held in Tseminyu
DIMAPUR — A two-day skills development workshop on pickle making and basket weaving was conducted at the District Programme Officer’s office, Tsokhesing, Tseminyu, on March 23 and March 24. The programme was organised by the district administration and Sankalp, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, with the objective of empowering women through livelihood-orientated training, stated a DIPR report. The workshop aimed to enhance practical skills, promote self-reliance, and encourage entrepreneurship among the women participants.
DIC Wokha organises FSSAI awareness drive
DIMAPUR — The District Industries Centre (DIC) Wokha organised a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) awareness programme at the Sub-District Industries Centre, Bhandari, Wokha, on March 24. The event was held as a part of the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme implemented by the Department of Industries and Commerce in collaboration with Nagaland Industrial Corporation Limited, stated a DIPR report. The programme is aimed at creating awareness about FSSAI regulations and facilitating the registration process, enabling Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) to build trust, comply with legal norms, access new markets, and grow their businesses sustainably. A total of 40 participants from self-help groups (SHGs) in different villages under the Bhandari sub-division were registered during the drive.
DoSE conducts training for Hindi teachers
DIMAPUR — The Directorate of School Education (DoSE) organised a two-day orientation and training for Hindi teachers from the multiple districts of Noklak, Shamator, and Tuensang on March 19 and 20. According to an update, it was funded by Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland. A total of 62 Hindi teachers from Shamator, 53 from Noklak, and 106 from Tuensang attended the training programme. The resource persons for Noklak were Sooraj K, Graduate Hindi Teacher from GHS Peshu, and Ruchunlo Tep, JEO (Hindi) from School Education. For the Shamator district, the resource persons were Khemula of GHSS Shamator and Rometo Sema, Principal of Government Hindi Institute, Dimapur. The resource persons for the Tuensang district included S Peter Sema, Deputy Director from School Education, and Akhumla of GHSS Tuensang.
