Meghalaya edge Nagaland in thriller, Sikkim cruise past Arunachal to seal semi-final spots in NECDC U-19 Cup action

DIMAPUR — Meghalaya held their nerve to pull off a narrow three-wicket win over Nagaland, while Sikkim registered a commanding eight-wicket victory over Arunachal Pradesh on an action-packed day in the 4th NECDC Inter-State Friendship Cup (U-19) on Wednesday.
At the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Meghalaya chased down a target of 168 with two balls to spare, finishing on 170/7 in 29.4 overs in a closely fought contest.
Batting first, Nagaland posted 167 all out in 39.5 overs, riding on identical 36-run knocks from Amongti Lkr (45) and Shyerinlo (49). However, Meghalaya’s Mewankitbok Kharpuri turned the game with a superb five-wicket haul (5/33), well supported by Benedict J Makdoh (2/31).

In reply, Angkit Tamang anchored the chase with a patient 42 off 67 balls, guiding Meghalaya home despite regular breakthroughs by Nagaland bowlers. Yashimeren Jamir (2/40) and Amongti Lkr (2/29) kept the pressure on, but Meghalaya crossed the line in the closing stages. Kharpuri was named Player of the Match.
In the other match at Sovima Cricket Ground, Sikkim outclassed Arunachal Pradesh with a clinical all-round performance.
Arunachal Pradesh were bowled out for 118 in 26.3 overs after opting to bat, with Nabam Nathan top-scoring with 31 off 23 balls. Sikkim’s bowling was led by Parvin Kuikel, who returned figures of 4/26.
Chasing a modest target, Sikkim raced to 124/2 in just 17.1 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 51 from Andan Alam, who steered the chase with ease to earn the Player of the Match award.
The results set up the semi-final clashes scheduled for April 9, with Manipur taking on Sikkim at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, while Mizoram face Meghalaya at Sovima Cricket Ground.
