The NEC completed nine projects worth nearly Rs 80 crore in Nagaland during July and August 2026, covering infrastructure, conservation, tourism, culture and livelihoods.
DIMAPUR — The North Eastern Council (NEC), under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), has completed nine projects worth nearly INR 80 crore in Nagaland during July and August 2026.
According to a DIPR report, of the nine projects, five foundational initiatives were completed in July at a total cost of INR 16.06 crore. The projects covered areas including ecological conservation, drinking water, coffee processing, cultural infrastructure, tourism and road connectivity.
Under the Scheme of NEC (SoNEC) – 30% Focused Development Component, two scientific afforestation projects were completed in Phek and Peren districts, each with an approved cost of INR 3 crore.
The afforestation initiatives were aimed at restoring degraded landscapes, checking soil erosion and promoting biodiversity.
Joint forest management committees were also involved in the implementation, providing local communities with employment opportunities and encouraging community participation in forest conservation.
A drinking water facility at Nagaland University's Medziphema Campus was operationalised on July 2.
The project, sanctioned at a cost of INR 4.43 crore and implemented by Nagaland University under NEC schemes, is intended to provide clean and safe drinking water to students, scholars and nearby rural settlements.

The NEC also completed a INR 4 crore project for value addition in Nagaland's coffee sector on July 15. The initiative included the provision of modern coffee-roasting machines and training for entrepreneurs to enable local growers to process their produce within the state.
In the cultural sector, the Naga Indigenous Inn-cum-Learning Centre at Kijulo, Phesama, was completed at a cost of INR 1.66 crore.
The Museum-cum-Library and Guest House at Chungliyimti, sanctioned at INR .11 crore, and the Konyak Heritage Complex in Mon district, sanctioned at INR 22.78 crore, were also completed.
In the tourism sector, the Development of Kohima View Point at Aradura Hills was completed under a project sanctioned at INR 4.50 crore.
Under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS-Roads), the NEC completed an 8.4-km road and bridge project connecting NH-29 at 7th Mile Model Village through Seithekiema C Tourist Destination to Niuland Road towards Governor's Camp.
The project was sanctioned at INR 32.89 crore.
During July and August, the NEC also released INR 33.92 lakh under SoNEC for the nearly completed Tribal Artisans Resource Centre at Chümoukedima, which was sanctioned at INR 2.91 crore.
An additional INR 6 lakh was allocated for an awareness workshop on the cultivation and trade of agarwood, aimed at promoting sustainable livelihood and trade opportunities related to the forest resource.
According to the report, the projects reflect the NEC's focus on infrastructure development, environmental conservation, cultural preservation and livelihood promotion in Nagaland.
