  • DIMAPUR — The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has reaffirmed its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that the recent induction of seven legislators from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will not alter the existing dynamics of the ruling coalition in Nagaland.

  • In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party welcomed the seven NCP legislators who joined the NDPP on May 31, along with their supporters, and emphasised that the move reflects continued faith in the leadership of NDPP president Chingwang Konyak and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

  • “The NDPP also puts on record that the joining of the seven Hon’ble members and their supporters does not in any way affect the existing dynamics between the NDPP and the BJP—the Peoples Democratic Alliance (PDA),” the statement read.

  • The NDPP further asserted that the inclusion of the new members would only serve to “strengthen the alliance with more members” and contribute to the continued growth of the PDA. The party reaffirmed its commitment to the coalition and its role as a member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the national level.

  • “The NDPP firmly assures our alliance partner the BJP as well as the people of the State that the PDA will continue to function as it has been for the last seven years; albeit, stronger and more united,” it stated.

  • While positioning itself as a regional entity that “truly feels and understands the needs and aspirations of the people,” the party also linked the merger to its ongoing role in facilitating the Indo-Naga political dialogue.

  • “At a time when the protracted Indo-Naga political issue is at a very crucial stage, the joining of these seven leaders will further strengthen the NDPP as a regional party and help in furthering our agenda of pursuing the issue with all negotiating parties and the Government of India in expediting a final settlement to the Indo-Naga issue in our role as an active facilitator,” it stated.
