NBCC and Mokokchung administration hold interaction on Clean Election Movement to promote fair and peaceful polls.

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), in collaboration with the district administration Mokokchung, convened an interaction and fellowship programme with the deputy commissioner Mokokchung and staff on ‘Clean Election Movement’ at the DC’s conference hall on March 26.
In his introductory address, Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, general secretary, NBCC, maintained that the gathering is not merely a formal programme but a platform for dialogue, partnership and to share responsibilities about NBCC’s clean election movement, which is an initiative that the NBCC has been carrying forward over the year to bring about social transformation, a DIPR report stated.
He stated that NBCC has initiated the clean election movement as a response to the various challenges that accompanied election in Nagaland so as to awaken the consciences of all the stakeholders, voters, leaders, civil societies and institutions alike.
The vision of the movement is for transformation not only in systems but also in attitudes and values which required collective effort and mutual cooperation from all stakeholders, Rev. Pongener added.

He further said that to achieve the true vision of this movement people need to stand firm in practice and in promoting it in their respective spheres of influence.
Dr. Villo Naleo, secretary, social concern department, NBCC, in his presentation on “NBCC initiative for clean election, vision, and commitment and way forward,” shared about the history of Clean Election Movement, its objectives and visions and the strategies of the clean election movement to bring about social transformation.
Deputy Commissioner & DEO Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, in his address, appreciated the NBCC for taking up the initiative of Clean Election Movement, and opined that it will help in bringing about a transformation for a clean, fair and peaceful election process in the state.
The DC also reiterated that rules and laws are put in place only as preventive measures, the changes can be seen only when all the stakeholders come together to achieve the desired purpose.
Rev. Temsu Jamir, executive secretary, ABAM, while sharing his thoughts on Clean Election Movement, said the message of this movement will impact the society.
The programme was chaired by Bideno Kikon, secretary, christian education department, NBCC, while benediction was led by Katoli V Sumi, secretary, Women Department, NBCC.
