DIMAPUR — A two-day training on Navjaat Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (NSSK) for healthcare workers is underway at the Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) Conference Hall, Mokokchung. It commenced on Tuesday.
The objective of the training is to equip health workers with skills for basic newborn care and resuscitation in order to reduce neonatal mortality, stated an update.
On Tuesday, Dr. Limanaro, DPO (Universal Immunisation Programme and Reproductive and Child Health), in her short speech, briefed the participants about the purpose of conducting the training and encouraged them to be very attentive so as to acquire essential knowledge and skills to provide optimal care to neonates in health facilities and thereby help improve the health status of newborns.

Dr. Imlisenba, a paediatrician and the resource person for the training, imparted the basics of the NSSK programme and trained the health workers on preparedness of delivery and birth equipment, infection prevention, action taken at birth and routine birth, steps for positive pressure ventilation, observation care for mother and child, neonatal resuscitation, breastfeeding, Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), immunisation, discharge, and follow-up plan.
