DIMAPUR — The National Statistics Office (NSO), Kohima, organised a workshop on survey participation benefits-cum-essay competition on September 24 at the conference hall of Transport Commissionerate Building, as part of the on-going 75th anniversary celebration of the National Sample Survey (NSS).
The workshop started with a briefing by E Renbi Jami, Director of National Statistics Office (FOD), RO Kohima, highlighting the surveys conducted by the NSO and the importance of participating in such surveys, an update stated.
Neisatuo Puro, Additional Director of Economics & Statistics department, spoke on the importance of reliable data for better planning and policy-making.

Dr. Pallab Changkakoti, Associate Professor and HoD in the Department of Statistics, Kohima Science College, spoke on the importance of official statistics in the country.
Dr. Ratan Kaurinta, Associate Professor in the Department of Commerce at Nagaland University's Kohima Campus, highlighted the significance of NSS data from a stakeholder's perspective, emphasising its impact from people to policy.
Prof. Kh. Devananda Singh, Head of the Department of Management at Nagaland University's Kohima Campus, highlighted the significance of data in social science research. This was followed by a presentation by LK Ngathingkhui, Assistant Director of the National Statistics Office, who shared recent survey results pertaining to the north-eastern states.
Field experiences and challenges faced by the field staffs of NSO were presented by Raj Kumar Malik and Alizenba Jamir.
An on-the-spot essay writing competition was held during the second session on the topic ‘Challenges in conducting large-scale surveys.’
Altogether, 20 students from six colleges and Nagaland University participated in the competition.
The essay writing competition saw Lika K Aye from Kohima Science College claim the first prize, followed by Jano Nakhro from Kohima Science College in second place, and Vilibo Aye from Mount Olive College securing the third prize.
The programme, compered by Nenghoilhing Haolai, SSO, commenced with a welcome address by R Mhabemo Ngullie, SSO, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Imtizulu, SSO.
