ICAR KVK Dimapur observes National Nutrition Month at Paiphijang village to raise awareness of balanced diets.

DIMAPUR — National Nutrition Month (Rashtriya Poshan Maah) 2026 was observed at Paiphijang village by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur in collaboration with the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Dimapur, and the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM).
The Child Development Project Officer for Dimapur Urban Limasangla addressed the gathering on the initiative "Hamari Anganwadi Hamari Jimmedari", highlighting the importance of the event.
According to an update, District Poshan Coordinator Limasenla Walling outlined the five focus themes of Poshan Maah: dietary diversity and adequate protein intake, fresh hot cooked meals, community ownership and accountability, nutrition and early stimulation, and ten years of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).
The programme aimed to raise awareness regarding balanced nutrition among vulnerable groups, particularly pregnant women, lactating mothers, and adolescent girls.

Subject Matter Specialist in Home Science at ICAR KVK Dimapur Dr. Chingakham Sima Chanu spoke on dietary diversity and adequate protein intake, explaining the nutritional requirements for women and adolescent girls. She stressed the importance of consuming balanced diets composed of affordable, locally sourced food items to meet nutritional needs at different stages of life.
Participants received practical guidance on incorporating diverse food groups into daily diets, with a focus on indigenous fruits, vegetables, and locally available produce to improve household nutrition.
A local food exhibition was organised to display a wide variety of indigenous fruits and vegetables, serving as a practical demonstration of nutritious resources available in the community.
Vegetable kits were also distributed to attendees to promote backyard vegetable farming and assist households in establishing kitchen gardens for sustainable food security.
Around 60 participants attended the event, including pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls, Anganwadi workers, and members of self-help groups.
