- DIMAPUR — An awareness programme under the
Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Drug-Free India Campaign) was organised at
Thonoknyu town on Saturday to highlight the harmful effects of substance abuse
and promote a healthy, addiction-free lifestyle among the youth.
- According to a DIPR report, the event was held on the theme
"Empowered youth, addiction-free future," highlighting the vital role
young people play in building a progressive, drug-free society.
- Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, P
Mono Khiam, expressed concern over the growing issue of drug addiction in the
state, particularly among the younger generation.
- He emphasised that substance abuse not only affects the
individual but also has far-reaching consequences for families and the broader
community. Stressing the need for early education and community involvement, he
noted that addressing substance abuse is a collective responsibility.

- The awareness campaign is part of a nationwide initiative
under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, launched by the Ministry of Social
Justice and Empowerment, aimed at eradicating substance abuse at the grassroots
level.
- The programme included informative sessions and details on
counselling resources available in the region for those struggling with
addiction. A large number of government officials, community leaders, teachers,
health workers, church leaders, and school students attended the event.
