- DIMAPUR — The Dimapur District Legal Services
Authority (DDLSA), in collaboration with the Department of Legal Metrology and
Consumer Protection (LM&CP), Dimapur, organised a consumer awareness
programme in Seithekema C, Chümoukedima, and Little Star Higher Secondary
School, Dimapur, on May 29 and 30 respectively on the theme “Know your rights.”
- An update from DDLSA stated that the programme on May 29 was
chaired by panel lawyer Nishela Assumi and on May 30 by Visheli Yeptho.
- The resource persons were Sonile Seb, retainer lawyer;
Zuchumpeni Ngullie, panel lawyer; and Rokovitsu Khate, panel lawyers. The
resource persons emphasised on the significance of Consumer Protection Act,
2019, and spoke on the experiences and the reliefs to be sought for.
- The keynote address was delivered by Ngangshimakok,
assistant controller of LMCP, on both the occasions. He stressed on the
importance of rights to consumers in India guaranteed by the Consumer
Protection Act, 2019 and also spoke on the 6 fundamental consumer rights.

- He also emphasised on “Jago Grahak Jago,” a consumer
awareness programme launched in 2005 by the Ministry of Consumer, Government of
India, which empowered customers by giving them the information and resources
they need to make wise decisions when acquiring goods and services.
- He further stated that the scheme achieved mass popularity
and quickly reached out to the consumers, thereby putting an end to many
ongoing malpractices by merchants.
- The vote of thanks was delivered by Thungchumo Jami, vice
chairman of Lotha Ekhung, Seithekema ‘C,’ and Christina Neikhrienuo, principal
of Little Star Higher Secondary School.
