Nagaland’s first Under-15 Futsal Tournament kicks off in Mokokchung with 32 teams, fostering young football talent through Kichutip Sporting Association’s initiative.

MOKOKCHUNG — Nagaland’s first Under-15 Futsal Tournament, organised by Kichutip Sporting Association (KSA) under the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA), commenced at Mujabi Futsal Turf, Salangtem Ward, Mokokchung, on Tuesday.
Featuring 32 teams from across Nagaland, the three-day event, also hosted at Alempang Turf Ground, marks KSA’s silver jubilee celebration resolution to nurture young football talent.

Lanuchuba Imchen, president of Longterok Football Club and Councillor, DMC (Tolls and Fees), attended the opening as guest of honour and announced plans for a football academy to develop regional talent.
He praised KSA and MDFA for fostering grassroots football, urging regular tournaments to elevate players to district and state levels. Expressing concern over declining Ao representation in Nagaland’s state team, Imchen called for action to revive participation.
He highlighted Longterok FC’s competitiveness against top clubs like Barak FC and pledged career guidance for promising players, connecting them with clubs across India.
N Akok Longkumer, MDFA president, lauded KSA’s efforts, emphasising the tournament’s role in youth development.
“Sports is an industry that changes lives,” he said, citing the Nagaland Super League’s success and urging the Ao community to nurture its 12–13 promising players.
Referring to the Olympic history of Ao players, he emphasised the importance of dedication and sportsmanship. Longkumer highlighted MDFA’s “Football at the Grassroots” programme, which spans eight zones including Kichutip Ward, and pledged to continue supporting such initiatives.
Imtichiba Kichu, KSA president, welcomed attendees, describing the tournament as a milestone. He urged players to compete with discipline and thanked sponsors NI Enterprise, Longterok FC, and others.
Short speeches on the occasion were delivered by Sentiwapang (Kichutip Ward Council) and S Bendang Longkumer (Salangtem Ward Council).
In the day’s matches, Revenant FC dominated United Football Club 8–0, with Yha OL, Thongo, and Imsujungba scoring twice each and Prem adding one. Evergreen Club edged Starters 4–2, powered by Hengoulen’s four goals and one from N Puchai.
