Nagaland Wrestling Association defers state-level championship

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) has postponed the proposed state-level freestyle, Greco-Roman, and women’s wrestling championship that was earlier scheduled to take place on October 21 and the 22nd.

The decision was taken following a meeting of the association’s executive office bearers held on October 13. The NWA informed that the postponement was necessitated due to an “unfavourable situation” and stated that new dates for the championship would be announced later.

In view of this, the NWA has directed all its affiliated organisations and provisional units to organise training or coaching camps for freestyle, Greco-Roman, and women’s wrestling within their respective jurisdictions on or before November 15.

The association instructed the units to submit an official report along with photographs of the conducted training camps to the NWA office.

The directive was issued to facilitate the selection of wrestlers who will represent Nagaland in the 2025 Senior National Wrestling Championship, to be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from December 12 to 14 under the aegis of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

Meanwhile, the NWA has invited all interested wrestlers to contact their respective units—both affiliated and provisional—or the NWA office if they wish to attend an upcoming coaching camp outside the state for freestyle, Greco-Roman, and women’s wrestling.

The last date for submitting the confirmation list of wrestlers for the out-of-state coaching camp has been fixed for October 18 before 12 noon, the association informed.
