The Water Resources Department launched a two-day training programme in Kohima to equip officers with photography, videography, GIS and drone mapping skills.

DIMAPUR — The Water Resources Department (WRD) began a two-day capacity-building training programme on photography, videography and drone mapping for its officers at the conference hall of the chief engineer, WRD, Kohima, on Thursday.
According to a DIPR report, Executive Engineer Wapangnaro Imchen, in her keynote address, said the Water Resources Department carries the responsibility of ensuring water security and developing irrigation infrastructure in the state by conserving water resource structures and protecting communities from flood and erosion.
She said the department must continue adopting modern technology by imparting training on photography, videography and drone mapping, as these have become an integral part of preparing detailed project reports (DPRs), enabling clear visual documentation to monitor works and projects without visiting the field.
Highlighting the importance of photography and videography, Imchen said projects presented through PowerPoint presentations had been declined by the ministry due to poor-quality photographs and videos submitted by the divisions.
She called upon engineers and department officers to undergo the training with sincerity to equip themselves with basic skills in photography and videography.

Imchen also highlighted the importance of GIS mapping and said every DPR requires a GIS map, without which proposals are often rejected.
She urged trainees to give importance to drone mapping, as most departmental projects are undertaken in difficult terrain that is not easily accessible on foot.
She further called upon the participants to take the two-day training seriously so that the knowledge gained could be implemented in their respective divisions with proper application of photography, videography and drone mapping.
Junior Engineer Mulukhhoto Khama, who chaired the programme, said training in photography, videography and drone mapping has become indispensable for presenting accurate visual records of field activities, improving the quality of reports and addressing audit observations with credible evidence.
He expressed hope that the knowledge and practical skills gained through the programme would enhance the efficiency and professionalism of officers in carrying out their responsibilities.
