DIMAPUR — Nagaland University and ICFAI University Nagaland observed National Sports Day on August 29 at their respective campuses.
An update from Nagaland University stated that the programme, organised by the sports section at Kohima campus, brought together students, faculty and guests.
It was chaired by Mesanguto Meru, assistant director of sports, and commenced with a welcome note, followed by an address by Dr. N Venuh, pro-vice chancellor of Kohima campus.

In his keynote address, Dr. Venuh underscored the transformative role of sports in education and personal development, stating that “sports reduce stress, provide valuable life skills and promote teamwork while fostering a sense of community.”
The highlight of the programme was the oath-taking ceremony, led by the sports secretary, Phuyeka Yeptho, who called upon the participants to uphold fairness, respect and sportsmanship in every contest.
It was followed by the official kick-off of the ADSW Cup, marked by a volleyball match between the teaching and non-teaching staff. This was followed by a volleyball match between the first-year and final-year students and three inter-departmental football matches.
Meanwhile, according to a press release from ICFAI University Nagaland, the institution observed the day by organising sports competitions including chess, badminton and carrom.
The programme commemorated the birth anniversary of Indian hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and aimed to create awareness among students on the importance of sports in building physical health, social values and team spirit.
