Nagaland University’s TechFusion Club organised a hands-on drone workshop for 31 students, covering UAV components, flight controls, embedded systems and circuit assembly.

DIMAPUR — The TechFusion Club of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, organised a hands-on workshop on “Hands-on Experience with Drone Components” on September 30, providing 31 students from various departments with practical exposure to drone technology, electronics, embedded systems and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Held at the SET building, the workshop aimed to bridge classroom learning with practical experimentation by introducing students to the fundamental components, working principles and control systems of drones, an update from the university stated.
The programme featured live demonstrations, simulation exercises and hands-on circuit assembly.
Participants were introduced to the construction of brushless drones, including frames, brushless motors, Electronic Speed Controllers (ESCs) and batteries.
They also explored the design of a coreless mini drone incorporating a motor driver, an ESP32-based flight controller and an MPU6050 accelerometer and gyroscope.
The workshop covered the basic principles of drone flight, including throttle, yaw, pitch and roll, and demonstrated how these controls affect the movement, stability and operation of a drone.
As part of the practical training, students used PICA Sim for virtual flight practice, allowing them to familiarise themselves with drone controls in a simulated environment before handling actual equipment.
They also received demonstrations and practical exposure to ESP32 and MPU6050-based systems, remote controllers, multimeters, batteries and buck converters.
In an additional practical session, half of the participants assembled a motor driver circuit using a MOSFET, flyback diode and resistor, gaining direct experience in basic electronic circuit construction.
The workshop also sought to introduce students from non-electronics backgrounds to embedded systems and UAV technology, while demonstrating the interconnection of electronics, programming, mechanics and control systems in modern drone technology.
Club mentor Shanchamo Yanthan expressed gratitude to Prof. N Venuh, Pro Vice Chancellor, NU Kohima Campus, and Prof. Sujata Dash, Dean, NU-SET, for their continued motivation and support for such activities.
Yanthan encouraged students to actively participate in club activities and develop their innovative skills and creativity through practical workshops.
The TechFusion Club stated that it would continue organising interdisciplinary activities aimed at promoting technical learning, innovation, robotics and emerging technologies among Nagaland University students.
