Nagaland University and multiple colleges across the state hold academic, awareness, and youth programmes.
DIMAPUR — Multiple education institutions across Nagaland organised various academic, awareness, cultural, and community programmes.

Nagaland University: The Department of Psychology at Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, observed a week-long programme from October 5 to the 10th to mark World Mental Health Day on the theme “Lived experiences heard: Real voices, real change”.
According to a press release, the event featured reel, poster, creative writing, and photography competitions.
A commemorative service was conducted on October 9, commencing with opening remarks from the chairperson, Dr. Lovika P Shikhu, who highlighted the significance of mental health initiatives, open dialogue, and supportive environments. The former Head In-charge of the Department of Psychology, Buno Liegise, delivered an exhortation on how attitude determines the altitude one climbs in life.
Dr. Aokumla Walling from the Department of History and Archaeology delivered a talk based on personal and professional experiences in high-pressure environments.
Dr. Amrita Pain, Assistant Professor of Psychology at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences, delivered the keynote address on student realities, policy pathways, institutional responsibility, empathetic problem-solving, and a multi-stakeholder action model. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Head of the Department of Psychology Dr. Imlisongla Longkumer.
Meanwhile, the Department of Rural Development and Planning at Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, organised an interactive awareness session on “Regional investor seminar for awareness on navigating the financial markets: awareness, inclusion & fraud prevention” in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) India Limited.
Assistant General Manager of SEBI Kolkata Akshay Kumar Singh conducted a technical session on the overview of the securities market, while Manager of NSE Kolkata Abhishek Singh addressed scams and fraud prevention.
St. Joseph's College: The Alumni Association of St. Joseph's College (Autonomous), Jakhama, felicitated Dr. Saju Mathew, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics, on his 25th year of service to the college on Sunday.
Dr. Mathew was presented with a citation and certificate by alumni President Thepfuvizo Peter Vizo alongside executives Thekrunguno Audrey, David Yhunsinlo Tep, and Max Marius Menuse-O.
Kohima College: The Department of Commerce at Kohima College celebrated Commerce Day on the theme “Celebrating a decade of growth and progress” on October 9, marking ten years of its establishment.
Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vupru formally launched the Student-preneur Incubation Initiative to support students in pursuing viable business ventures.
Associate Professor at Dimapur Government College Biswajit Sarkar, who served as the first head of the Department of Commerce at Kohima College in 2016, delivered the keynote address.
He encouraged students to introspect on past achievements and challenges while working collectively towards future progress.
Modern College: Modern College, Piphema, organised the fourth edition of Autumn Fiesta on the theme “Vintage Retro” on October 10.
Commandant Officer of the 78 Battalion CRPF Deven Bhosle attended as the special guest and reminded students that character remains the foundation of a meaningful life, adding that vintage values and habits should be preserved.
In the singing competition, Modern Rhapsody, judged by Aduozo Keretsü, Kedovituo Peseyie, and Vetholu Rhakho, Y Libeni from Modern College won first place, followed by Hito H Yeptho from Mt. Olive College in second and Keneilhoulie from Norman Putsure College in third.
The fiesta featured arm wrestling and dumbbell hold competitions organised by Power Gym and LFG with the college alumni association, drawing 54 participants. In the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang e-sports tournament organised by the ESports Club featuring 51 teams, Team TWM won first place, Team OSC finished as runners-up, Team EZZ WIN took second runners-up, and TWM*ICE was awarded MVP.
C-Edge College: C-Edge College, Chümoukedima, observed World Mental Health Day at Daily Market, Naga United Village, on October 9.
The event featured sharing sessions by Sneha and Kali, a duet by Bendangsenla and Suponginla, and a drama alongside a group song presented by students to raise mental health awareness.
MGM College: The National Service Scheme unit of MGM College organised ‘Yuva Sanwad - Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ on the theme ‘My health, my pride’ at its adopted village, Kashiram, on October 9 as part of Week 4 of the 100-Week Sankalp Abhiyan.
Dimapur Municipal Council Councillor I Sentinuklu Jamir attended as the chief guest, calling on youth to resist substance abuse and contribute to nation-building.
Psychiatric Social Worker at District Hospital Dimapur Neimhanu Kulnu delivered the keynote address, cautioning against casual experimentation and urging compassionate care for persons with addiction.
Consultant Psychiatrist at District Hospital Dimapur and Nodal Officer of the Dimapur Mental Health Programme Dr. A Temsuyanger conducted an interactive session on addiction, while college volunteers presented a street play depicting the harmful consequences of substance abuse.
