DIMAPUR — Two minors drowned in the Dhansari River on Monday evening, while another was rescued after being spotted by passersby, officials said.
According to SDRF Havaldar Yevuxu Swu, a distress call was received at around 5:30 pm on March 23, following which the SDRF team rushed to the spot with rescue equipment. The three minors had reportedly gone to the river after tuition to play in the water.
Swu said that due to the strong current, two of them drowned, while a 12-year-old boy managed to swim towards the river bank. While struggling to get out of the water, he was noticed by passersby from the Imkonglenden Colony side, who rescued him.
The SDRF team, led by Duty Commander Havaldar Yevuxu Swu, carried out a search operation till around 9 pm on Monday, which was later suspended due to darkness and resumed the following morning.
On Tuesday, at around 5:10 am, the body of an 11-year-old boy was found floating near the river bank by volunteers of Naharbari. Later, at around 9 am, the SDRF team recovered the body of another minor, aged 10.
All three minors were residents of Master Colony, Ward-10, Naharbari, East Dimapur. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families.
