DIMAPUR — Nagaland will join the rest of the world in observing Remembrance Day on November 11 to honour and remember the sacrifices of British and Commonwealth servicemen and women during the World Wars and subsequent conflicts across the world.
According to a DIPR report, the observance, initiated by the government of Nagaland in collaboration with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), serves as a reminder of the human cost of conflict and encourages a commitment to peace.
A release from the Home Department mentioned that the first formal observance of Remembrance Day in Nagaland held last year, was a significant occasion that witnessed the presence and partnership of the United Kingdom, represented by the British Deputy High Commissioner. The event strengthened the growing ties between the people of Nagaland and the United Kingdom.
Following its success, the annual commemoration has now become an important part of the state government’s official calendar.
This year’s commemorative programme will take place on the morning of November 11 at the Kohima War Cemetery with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio as the special guest and Bhaarat Dave, deputy head of mission, British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata, as the honoured guest.
