Nagaland State Commission for Women organises awareness programme on Poshan Maah at St. Xavier Church Jubilee Hall in Jalukie town under Peren district.

DIMAPUR — Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW), in collaboration with the Zeliangrong Mipui Organisation (ZMO), organised an awareness programme on Poshan Maah at St. Xavier Church Jubilee Hall in Jalukie town under Peren district on Friday.
An update from NSCW stated that the programme was aimed at promoting awareness on the importance of nutrition and collective efforts in fostering a healthier and more informed society through the Poshan initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, NSCW chairperson, W Nginyeih Konyak, highlighted the works and functions of the Commission, emphasising the vital role in safeguarding and promoting the rights and welfare of women across the state. She also spoke on the importance of Poshan Maah, describing it as a month-long campaign aimed at encouraging healthy nutrition among women and promoting awareness on balanced dietary habits for overall well-being.

She urged the women to raise their voices against violence and to exercise their rights with confidence, reinforcing the collective responsibility to build a safer and equitable society. She also highlighted the initiatives undertaken by NCW to create state-wide awareness.
She further encouraged the public to avail the facility of the free legal aid cell provided by the Commission.
Also speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Peren, Hiazu Meru, stated that Poshan Maah/ Poshan Abhiyaan is a well thought out and planned programme. He shared exemplary success stories of Anganwadi workers under Peren district especially of Tening and Nsong centres, on how they were spreading the awareness through home visits, storytelling, maintaining of nutri-garden, importance of men’s participation and community participation.
He also emphasised the crucial role of men’s participation in society, stating that community development cannot rely solely on the government saying, it should be the responsibility of all citizens to make effective use of government schemes.
Meru also mentioned how the state government, under the leadership of Dr. Neiphiu Rio, is working through different initiatives to make Nagaland a developed state by 2047 in line with the prime minister’s vision to make India a developed country by 2047.
During the technical session, Reguizeule Ndang, teacher at PM SHRI GMS in Peren town, spoke on “Early childhood care and education,” while R Chirhotshu Nyusou, CDPO of Jalukie, spoke on “Infant and young child feeding practices” and Asuni, central administrator at Sakhi- One Stop Centre, Peren, spoke on “Legal rights.”
The event was chaired by Akokla Longchar, NSCW member, and the introductory note was delivered by Apeuna Iheilung, president of ZMO.
