MOKOKCHUNG — The deputy commissioner’s office has officially revoked restrictions on heavy vehicle movement along the vital National Highway 702D (NH-702D) stretch connecting Mokokchung to Mariani in Assam, with immediate effect from October 17.
The decision was announced following the successful completion of repair works and technical certification from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), paving the way for smoother connectivity and much-needed relief for commuters, traders, and logistics operators across Nagaland and Assam.

The order, issued by Ajit Kumar Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, builds on a previous directive dated September 22. It incorporates fresh inputs from the office of the border magistrate, Tzurangkong, and, crucially, a green light from the BRO’s 103 Road Construction Company (GREF).
The BRO’s assessment confirmed that repair efforts have restored the road to a condition safe for heavy vehicular traffic.
For months, the highway—a critical artery linking Mokokchung to Assam—had been off-limits to heavy vehicles due to severe damage caused by landslides, heavy monsoon rains, and wear and tear.
