- DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Commission for
Women (NSCW) has condemned the attempted rape of a minor girl on May 31 by a
70-year-old man from Old Jalukie Sector ‘B’ under Peren district.
- In a press release on Monday, the commission noted the
rising frequency of such crimes and reiterated its unwavering stance against
all forms of violence and harassment directed at women and the girl child.
- It stated that these acts not only violate basic human
rights but also undermine the safety and dignity of women in general.

- “This is an appalling act that highlights the persistent
threats to women’s and girl child’s safety and security even in their own locality
(home, colony and villages).
- The NSCW will continue to advocate for safer
environments for women and remains committed to ensuring justice and
accountability in all such cases.
- “It is unacceptable that women and girls continue to face
such dangers while pursuing their education and careers,” the commission
stated.
- The NSCW called for a swift and thorough investigation,
stringent punishment for the culprit, and immediate action to enhance workplace
safety and security in both government and private sectors.
- “Women and girls safety must be prioritised and such crimes
must not go unpunished. It is about time that every citizen is sensitized about
the strict legal consequences and punishment for such heinous crimes attempted
or committed against women and the girl child,” the release added.
