The Department of Social Welfare held a review meeting and training programme in Kohima to strengthen supervision, monitoring, and implementation of welfare schemes.
DIMAPUR — The Department of Social Welfare held a review meeting and capacity-building training programme for supervisors on the implementation of various departmental schemes at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima, on July 31.
According to an official update, the programme aimed to address gaps in supervisory and management mechanisms, strengthen monitoring systems, enhance supervision, and improve service delivery across the department's welfare schemes.
In her opening address, Director of Social Welfare Toshili Zhimomi highlighted the importance of effective supervision, accurate data collection, timely reporting, and punctuality.
She called for greater coordination among supervisors across all schemes and missions under the department and stressed the need for seamless communication with senior officers, subordinate staff, and district administrations.
She also emphasised that regular field presence is essential for effective grassroots implementation.
Secretary to the Department of Social Welfare Limawabang Jamir urged supervisors to identify operational gaps, strengthen coordination between district-level leadership and field functionaries, and provide effective mentorship to Anganwadi workers (AWWs), whom he described as the department's frontline "foot soldiers."

Noting the increasing technical complexity of welfare schemes, Jamir encouraged supervisors to become proficient in the various online applications used by the department and provide supportive supervision and handholding to Anganwadi workers.
He also urged participants to translate the knowledge gained during the training into practical field-level interventions.
The training featured presentations by departmental resource persons on Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, the Aadhaar Enrolment Agency, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), schemes under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE), growth monitoring, the Poshan Tracker, the Pankhuti Portal, and the iGOT Karmayogi Portal.
The sessions focused on the implementation of flagship programmes of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and the Ministry of Rural Development, including the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), while outlining the roles and responsibilities of supervisors in ensuring effective implementation.
Earlier, the inaugural session was chaired by Joint Director Imkozenla. The programme concluded with closing remarks by Additional Director T Aoakhum Longchar.
