DIMAPUR — Nagaland on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 in the state, setting a target of extending Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) to rural households by December 2028.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announced the development through a social media post, describing the agreement as a key milestone in strengthening drinking water services in the state.
According to Rio, the MoU is an extension of the existing rural water supply programme and is aimed at ensuring sustainable, functional and community-owned drinking water systems across Nagaland while advancing the goal of "Har Ghar Jal" by 2028.
The agreement was signed and exchanged in the presence of Union Minister for Jal Shakti CR Patil, Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna and Nagaland Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister Jacob Zhimomi.

According to the Union minister, strengthening water services in remote rural areas forms part of broader efforts to improve access to basic services and advance the objective of providing tap water connections to every household.
The virtual event was attended by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, PHED Minister Jacob Zhimomi and senior officials of the Nagaland government. Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna, officials of the department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and other ministry representatives were also present.
