Kohima reviews progress of Teupuiki water project and proposed treatment plant in Khonoma village.

DIMAPUR — The proposed augmentation of water supply to Kohima town from the Teupuiki/Dzupfu River received a fresh push following a high-level review meeting that discussed plans for a new water treatment plant, road connectivity and development works linked to the project.
According to a DIPR update on Wednesday, the meeting was held on May 26 at the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, and reviewed progress on the implementation of the tripartite agreement signed among the government of Nagaland, Poilwa village, and Khonoma village.
Officials informed the meeting that a 22 million litres per day (MLD) Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is proposed to be established on approximately 15 acres of land in Khonoma village.
The land acquisition process will be undertaken through the district revenue administration in coordination with the Nagaland Development Board and the Public Health Engineering department, while survey works are scheduled to begin in June 2026.

The review also assessed progress on the Khonoma–NH29 road via Dzüdza River. According to the Executive Engineer of NPWD (R&B), Kohima South Division, the project has achieved 50% physical progress and is expected to be completed by the end of the 2026-27 financial year.
The department was directed to submit a detailed progress report by June 3.
Issues relating to the augmentation and improvement of water supply to Khonoma village were also discussed. PHED officials informed the meeting that the works are being implemented by the department of Rural Development under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The project director of DRDA Kohima was asked to furnish a status report by June 3.
The executive engineer of PHED Kohima urban division was further directed to submit reports and comments on matters concerning benefits for Khonoma village under the project.
In addition, the district education officer, Kohima, was instructed to submit a detailed report on the repair and renovation of Government High School in Khonoma village, while the divisional forest officer, Kohima, was tasked with submitting a report on restrictions related to logging and tree felling, as well as measures for the protection of flora and fauna in the area.
