DIMAPUR — The Government of Nagaland has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Tata Motors Limited for the procurement of 43 buses to strengthen services under the Nagaland State Transport (NST).
The agreement, signed at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat on May 5, involves a total project cost of INR 13 crore and introduces a deferred payment model.
Under the arrangement, the amount will be paid in three instalments over three years, beginning with a mobilisation advance of INR 5 crore, followed by INR 4 crore each in the subsequent two years. The payments will be made through State Plan allocations, avoiding conventional borrowing.
According to a DIPR update, the state is expected to receive all 43 buses within three months, which will augment NST’s fleet capacity, improve service coverage across urban and rural areas, and increase revenue generation.

The induction of new buses is also expected to improve passenger safety, comfort and reliability, while strengthening last-mile connectivity and reducing disruptions caused by the ageing fleet. It is further expected to enhance inter-district and interstate connectivity.
The tripartite agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen. Signatories included Additional Chief Engineer Merangkaba Imchen representing NST, OSD Ketoulhou Metha from the Finance Department, and Ajay Gupta, Deputy General Manager (Sales and Marketing), representing Tata Motors Limited.
