Nagaland sees mobile coverage in 1234 of 1535 villages

Nagaland has achieved mobile coverage in 1,234 out of 1,535 villages, with 1,211 having 4G access, as informed by Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar.

KOHIMA — Out of 1,535 villages in Nagaland, 1,234 have mobile connectivity (2G/3G/4G), of which 1,211 have 4G mobile connectivity as of May 31, 2025.


This was informed by the Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, in his reply during the parliamentary session on Wednesday.


Overall, in the Northeast region, he informed that as of May 31, 2025, out of 45,934 villages, 41,933 villages have mobile connectivity (2G/3G/4G), of which 40,399 have 4G mobile connectivity.


He also stated that the BharatNet project is being implemented in a phased manner to provide broadband connectivity such as Wi-Fi hotspots, Fibre to the Home (FTTH) connections, and other services to all gram panchayats (GPs) and villages on a demand basis.

He informed that as of June 2025, 6,355 GPs have been made service-ready under the BharatNet project in the northeastern region.


Further, he mentioned that the government is implementing various schemes under Digital Bharat Nidhi for the expansion of internet facilities through the installation of 4G mobile towers in the rural and remote areas of the country under the 4G Saturation Project.


In addition, the government is providing support of INR 3.25 crore (excluding taxes) to BSNL for hiring 10 Gbps international bandwidth for internet connectivity to ensure the availability of high-quality and high-speed internet access to the states of the NE region of the country.


As of May 31, 2025, Arunachal Pradesh has 5,993 villages, of which 4,229 have mobile coverage and 3,065 have 4G coverage. Assam has 26,429 villages, with 26,007 having mobile coverage and 25,934 having 4G coverage. Manipur comprises 2,612 villages, where 2,216 have mobile coverage and 2,124 have 4G coverage.


Meghalaya has 7,100 villages, with 6,347 having mobile coverage and 6,320 having 4G coverage. Mizoram consists of 867 villages, out of which 740 have mobile coverage and 678 have 4G coverage. Nagaland has 1,535 villages, with 1,234 covered by mobile networks and 1,211 having 4G coverage.


Sikkim has 461 villages, with 453 having mobile coverage and 442 having 4G coverage. Tripura consists of 937 villages, of which 707 have mobile coverage and 625 have 4G coverage.
