Nagaland schools shine at Wipro Earthian Regional Awards

The third annual Wipro Earthian Regional Awards and Green Empowerment Exchange took place on June 7at the State Institute of Rural Development auditorium in Kohima.

  • MOKOKCHUNG — The third annual Wipro Earthian Regional Awards and Green Empowerment Exchange took place on Saturday at the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) auditorium in Kohima, fostering environmental awareness among students.

  • Organised by the Wipro Earthian Nagaland Chapter, in collaboration with the Community Educational Centre Society (CECS) and the District Education Office, Kohima, the event saw participation from schools across four Nagaland districts, promoting sustainable practices through education.

  • Subonenba Longkumer, Director of CECS, opened the event, stressing the role of youth in environmental education. “Consistent learning and small steps at the school level can bring long-term positive change,” he said. Patricia Vizo, Senior SDEO, Kohima, welcomed participants, commending schools and teachers for their dedication to the Wipro Earthian programme.

  • Shashank Pratap Singh, Principal Director of the Department of School Education,  in his keynote address, emphasised education’s role in environmental responsibility. “Engage students in practical learning that benefits the environment and community,” he urged.

  • During the felicitation ceremony, three schools  — Vision Higher Secondary School (Dimapur), GHS Chandmari (Kohima), and Rajeshwari Karuna School (Tuli) — were awarded for exemplary sustainability projects.

  • Each team shared insights from their work, highlighting practical learning outcomes.

  • The event concluded with the inauguration of an Environmental Sustainability Exhibition, where six schools displayed models, charts, and presentations on waste management, water conservation, and biodiversity. Over 100 students and 31 teachers participated, exchanging ideas and fostering collaboration.
