KOHIMA — Principal Director of School Education, Shashank Pratap Singh, has expressed interest in collaborating with private schools in Nagaland to enhance the school education sector, focusing on vibrant, dynamic, and outcome-driven learning.

The principal director was addressing the science and arts exhibition on the theme ‘Bridging science and society,’ organised by Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima (DBHSSK) on Friday at the school campus.

Singh stated that the government is still exploring the best education model for Nagaland, acknowledging it may take time, but progress is being made in the right direction.

He suggested that science and arts exhibitions should focus on finding local solutions to local problems. He cited the example of Kohima's water scarcity, recommending models on rainwater preservation and purification.

“Our leaning has to have context where we can try to find out the solutions of the local problems,” he added.

He also emphasised that teaching and learning should be enjoyable, urging educators to spark students' interest in subjects to enhance learning outcomes.

The principal director noted that most students opt for arts after HSLC and advised them to pursue higher studies based on interest, not just for degrees. Singh encouraged students and parents to consider science streams, highlighting their significance in everyday life.

Additionally, he advised students to pursue their subject interests after HSSLC, citing ample career opportunities beyond school.

“Explore all the opportunities and go for your inner calling. None of the career is bad, but it just depends on where you want to excel,” he said, adding that all careers are equally important and respectable.

Further, the official underscored that textbook learning should have local relevance, encouraging science institutions to focus on solving local problems.

Rev. Fr. Innocent SDB, Principal of DBHSSK, informed that the annual science and art exhibition provides a platform for young minds to showcase their talents.

Thejakielie Titus Rutsa, a Class 10 student, highlighted the inseparable link between science and society, exploring science's impact on the past.
