Nagaland recorded the lowest EV adoption in the Northeast under the FAME-II scheme, with only six EVs sold and INR 3 lakh in incentives disbursed during the programme.
KOHIMA — Nagaland recorded the lowest adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) among the Northeastern states under the Centre's Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME-II) scheme, with only six EVs sold during the scheme period, according to a reply tabled in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The information was furnished in response to a starred question raised by Assam’s Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi regarding EV penetration in the Northeast.
According to the statement, Nagaland registered two EV sales in 2022-23 and four in 2023-24, taking the total number of EVs sold under the FAME-II scheme to six. The scheme was implemented from April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2024.
The Centre informed the Lok Sabha that the FAME-II scheme was implemented on a pan-India basis, with no state-wise allocation made under the programme.

In Nagaland, eight EVs received incentives under the scheme, with a total subsidy of INR 3 lakh (INR 0.03 crore) disbursed to buyers.
Across the Northeast, 20,855 EVs were incentivised, receiving subsidies amounting to INR 134.13 crore, representing 1.29% of the 16,21,197 EVs incentivised nationwide and 2.04% of the total INR 6,575.29 crore disbursed under FAME-II.
To strengthen charging infrastructure, the Centre has sanctioned 198 EV charging stations across the Northeast through Oil Marketing Companies. Of these, 23 charging stations have been sanctioned for Nagaland, while Assam has been allotted 117, Meghalaya 29, Manipur 14, Mizoram seven, Tripura five and Arunachal Pradesh three each.
The statement also noted that, as per information provided by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, there is no framework under the recently launched Modified UDAN Scheme relating to EV penetration.
