DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed deep concern over the frequent blockages along the Dimapur–Kohima stretch of National Highway-29.
In a press release on Tuesday, the NPCC stated that such disruptions cause immense hardship to the public, obstruct the movement of goods and people, and pose serious risks to safety.
The Congress committee informed that on Tuesday morning, Lok Sabha MP and NPCC President S Supongmeren Jamir held a telephonic conversation with RP Singh, Executive Director of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), to raise the pressing issue.

“Since the MP is presently in Brazil attending an official programme, a team of NPCC officials attempted to visit the affected site to monitor the clearance progress.
“However, access was denied due to safety concerns. The team nevertheless engaged in discussions with NHIDCL officials on the sidelines of the affected area,” it stated.
During the interaction, NHIDCL officials assured that the road would be reopened by Tuesday evening. They also informed that mechanical clearance of the landslide debris had been completed and the final safety inspection and formal opening were pending approval from the district administration.
“The highway has since been reopened. While we acknowledge the prompt efforts of the district administration and NHIDCL in addressing the crisis, the NPCC strongly urges that long-term corrective measures be implemented to prevent such recurring disruptions and ensure uninterrupted connectivity for the people,” the release added.
