DIMAPUR — Amid opposition from certain quarters, Power department has sought cooperation of all consumers across the state for the successful implementation of Reforms-Based and Results-Linked Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), launched by the Union Ministry of Power in July 2021.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the department explained that the RDSS aims to enhance the quality, reliability, and affordability of electricity supply by promoting a financially sustainable and operationally efficient distribution system.
The scheme has two key components: Smart Prepaid Metering for consumers and system-level metering, and System Improvement through loss reduction measures. Since February this year, the department has been executing the scheme in phases, beginning with the districts of Dimapur, Kohima, and Chümoukedima.

Department officials and staff are conducting awareness and sensitisation programmes in collaboration with urban local bodies, councils, and consumers across various wards and colonies in order to ensure public understanding and support for the initiative, it stated.
The department reminded that while electricity is a basic right, the method of service delivery is guided by law and must be respected. Citizens have a duty to pay for the services rendered, thereby contributing to a sustainable power ecosystem in the state, it stated.
Highlighting the urgency of the project, the department stressed that timely implementation is vital for maximising the scheme’s benefits. Accordingly, consumers and stakeholders have been encouraged to work closely with the department and the Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP), to expedite the rollout of smart meters and infrastructural upgrades.
