NPP files disqualification petitions against five MLAs who joined NPF, citing anti-defection provisions under the Constitution’s Tenth Schedule

KOHIMA — The National People’s Party (NPP) has filed petitions before the Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) seeking disqualification of the five MLAs who recently left the party and joined the Naga People’s Front (NPF).
In a statement, NPP National Vice President Vevoyi Wideo said separate petitions had been filed against each of the five legislators under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.
The five MLAs, A Nyamnyei Konyak, Nuklutoshi, C Kipili Sangtam, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso and Benei M Lamthiu, formally merged with the NPF on October 1.
“We respect the constitutional office of the Hon’ble Speaker and will place our case before him in accordance with law,” Wideo stated.
The petitions seek action under the anti-defection provisions of the Tenth Schedule in relation to the legislators’ move from the NPP to the NPF.
