Nagaland nominates Dzukou Valley as India’s top 50 tourist destinations

DIMAPUR — The conference of state tourism ministers, held on October 14 and 15 in Udaipur, Rajasthan, brought together tourism ministers and senior officials from across India to deliberate on key strategies for developing 50 world-class tourist destinations through a national challenge initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.

Representing Nagaland at the conference, the minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, accompanied by secretary and director of Tourism department, proposed Dzukou Valley as the state’s nomination under the “Development of 50 tourist destinations of global standards” initiative.

An update from the Tourism department stated that the proposal envisioned a transformative development plan amounting to INR 250 crore, aimed at establishing Dzukou Valley as a premier eco-tourism destination of international repute. The project would include construction of eco-friendly luxury hotel, construction of other tourist facilities and supporting infrastructure designed to enhance accessibility and visitor experience, while preserving the valley’s pristine natural eco-system.

Speaking at the conference, Along emphasised the valley’s unique ecological significance and pristine valley, noting that Dzukou stands as a symbol of God's beautiful creation in Nagaland for the world to see and experience.

The two-day conference was attended by Union Minister of Tourism and Culture, Government of India, and attended by 22 state tourism ministers along with senior officials from central and state tourism departments. The discussions focused on developing globally competitive destinations, promoting regional tourism circuits and strengthening cooperation between the centre and the states in building a more vibrant tourism economy.

It stated that the proposal marked a significant milestone in Nagaland’s ongoing efforts to promote its natural heritage and position Dzukou Valley as a world class destination for eco and sustainable tourism.
