DIMAPUR — Marking a significant milestone in the advancement of reproductive healthcare in Nagaland, Putuonuo Hospital in Kohima welcomed the birth of its first in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) baby on Wednesday.
An update stated that the entire IVF process was successfully carried out at Putuonuo Hospital, home to the standalone licensed IVF centre in Nagaland. It stated that Putuonuo Hospital is currently the only centre in the state with a full in-house team of highly skilled professionals, not relying on out-sourced specialists, embryologists or batch cycles.
The IVF team at Putuonuo Hospital was led by consultant infertility specialist Dr. Thejavinuo Keditsu (MS), embryologist Suryakant Prasad (MSc), embryologist Naghophukali Swu (MSc), fertility nurses Vipino Thapo and Ongalomimi, IVF GDA Civonuyi Medeo, and anaesthetist Dr. Kekhriesetuo Liezietsu (MD).

It described the feat as a testament to Nagaland’s growing medical repertoire, where a service once thought ‘impossible and unreachable,’ is now available to Nagas at their door-step.
“A journey once undertaken by many an infertile couple, to distant foreign lands seems unnecessary with this groundbreaking achievement,” it stated.
It mentioned that Putuonuo Hospital, a 35-year-old healthcare establishment in Kohima, continues to uphold its mission ‘to be a centre excellence in healthcare through multidisciplinary up-to-date ethical clinical practise, continuing medical education and research, building trust across communities through outreach, with a focus on delivering equitable and accessible healthcare to all.’
