DC Peren issues social media advisory
DIMAPUR — Peren Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru has issued an advisory urging citizens to use social media responsibly amid concerns over the circulation of unverified information that could disrupt communal harmony and public order. The advisory noted that misinformation is being shared on platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, X, YouTube and other digital communication channels, posing a serious threat to social harmony. Citizens have been directed to verify the authenticity of news, photographs, videos and messages before sharing, forwarding or publishing them. They have also been cautioned against creating or circulating content that could incite communal tension, violence, hatred or enmity between communities, or otherwise disturb law and order. The advisory warned that violations of the directives would invite legal action under the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and other applicable laws, rules and regulations.
NSCN (IM) USR condemns alleged rape
The United Sangtam Region (USR) of the NSCN (IM) has strongly condemned the alleged rape of an 82-year-old woman, reportedly committed by Heluikie Nsanglung, alias Amos, a constable of DEF Kiphire, on June 17. Describing the incident as "horrific" and "inhumane," the organisation said the alleged crime was a grave violation of human dignity and a betrayal of the public trust placed in law enforcement. It asserted that no individual, regardless of rank or authority, is above the law and demanded a swift, impartial, and transparent investigation. The group also called for the strictest legal action against the accused if found guilty, stressing that justice must not be delayed. It urged authorities to ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of the survivor while highlighting the need for stronger accountability, safeguards, and institutional reforms to prevent such abuses.

Farmers join PM-KISAN webcast
The ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun (NRCM), Medziphema, organized a live webcast of the release of the 23rd instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme by the Prime Minister of India on June 20. According to an update, the programme was attended by members of self-help groups (SHGs), farmers, and other stakeholders. On the occasion, Dr. Girish Patil, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, briefed the participants about the benefits of PM-KISAN and various flagship schemes of the central government aimed at improving farmers’ livelihoods and promoting rural development. The participants viewed the live address of the Prime Minister and gained awareness about the government’s initiatives for the welfare of farmers and rural communities.
CHA students shine in debate
Charis High Academy (CHA), Chümoukedima, student Cyndina Thonglaru of Class 10 was selected as the best debater at the Young Indians Parliament Competition held at Norman Putsure College on June 19. According to an update, the competition was organised by Young Indians under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Additionally, Kechyeyhun Chiesotsu of Class 9 and Cyndina Thonglaru have been selected to represent Charis High Academy at the regional-level competition to be held in Guwahati. The competition brought together six schools: North Town Higher Secondary School, Pilgrim Higher Secondary School, St Joseph Higher Secondary School, Greenwood Higher Secondary School, Hebron Higher Secondary School and Charis High Academy. A total of 59 students participated in the event, which provided a platform for young minds to engage in parliamentary discussions and debates on the theme, “Tourism-led economic development.”
