DIMAPUR — The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) and the Ao Senden have condemned the online death threat issued against Prof. Rosemary Dzüvichü, adviser of the NMA, through a Facebook post allegedly made by one WJ Longkumer of Dimapur.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the NMA said the “vicious, vulgar language of sexual violence and murder” used in the post was unacceptable. It noted that the reference to the women’s reservation issue evoked memories of threats and violence faced by women leaders during earlier protests.

The association termed the threat “diabolical in nature” and alleged that it was part of a conspiracy to intimidate strong women’s voices advocating for peace, equality and justice. It appealed to the law enforcement agencies to initiate legal action against the individual responsible, take action against the moderators of the two social media groups where the post was shared—Unified Naga Land for Christ and The Chronicles of Nagas—and provide adequate protection to Prof. Dzüvichü and other women activists.

Meanwhile, the Ao Senden, in a separate statement, also condemned the post, calling it “lunatically motivated” and an affront to women and society. It stated that women had always been accorded respect and dignity in Naga society and described the threat as unbecoming of a “civilised society.”

The Ao Senden urged authorities to arrest and punish the individual at the earliest. It further stated that for bringing infamy to the Ao community and hurting public sentiments, the organisation would also accord punishment under Ao customary laws.
