DIMAPUR — MGM College in Dimapur and the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) in Chümoukedima organised leadership and academic readiness programmes for their staff and students.

MGM College: MGM College hosted a leadership development session with the faculty and staff members of the college, featuring Sabastian Samuel, Regional Director of Peak Point Leadership, Hyderabad, as the resource person on June 5.
According to an update, during the session, Samuel shared insights on the importance of effective leadership in academic and professional environments.
Drawing from his experience in leadership training and organisational development, he highlighted the need for vision, integrity, commitment, teamwork, effective communication, and continuous personal growth to become impactful leaders.
The interactive programme provided participants with practical strategies to enhance their leadership capabilities, improve professional effectiveness, and cultivate a positive work culture. Through discussions, real-life examples, and activities, the resource person encouraged faculty and staff members to embrace challenges, develop a growth mindset, and lead by example.
Samuel highlighted that true leadership is not determined by position or authority but by influence, character, and the ability to inspire others towards a common goal. Organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) under the theme “Ignite the spark, inspire the change”, the programme brought together both junior and senior Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students for a learning experience.
An update mentioned that the STAR programme was designed to strengthen academic readiness, leadership, communication skills, teamwork, resilience, digital literacy, and social responsibility through a variety of experiential and participatory learning methods.
Throughout the five days, students engaged in simulation learning, role plays, storytelling, reflection circles, team-building activities, public speaking exercises, peer learning, cultural sharing, and creative group projects.
The programme featured ice-breakers, identity-sharing sessions, buddy-system interactions, and confidence-building simulations. Subsequent sessions focused on communication and self-expression, featuring storytelling, public speaking, open-mic presentations, and a simulated press conference.
Participants were also introduced to the profession of social work, the BSW curriculum, fieldwork requirements, and the vision and values of NEISSR.
Goal-setting workshops, mental health and well-being sessions, mindfulness exercises, and alumni interactions provided students with insights into academic and personal growth.
As part of the programme, students observed World Environment Day. A photography competition was organised by the NSS Unit to promote environmental awareness and encourage students to reflect on the importance of environmental stewardship.
The NCC Unit further marked the occasion by preparing paper bags from recycled newspapers and distributing them to nearby shops to reduce the use of plastic and promote sustainable practices.
