DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Medical Students’ Association (NMSA) has announced that it will call off its agitation against the state Health and Family Welfare department’s notification of August 18, which sought to directly regularise 280 contractual Covid-19 appointees through a departmental screening committee.
The decision, the association said in a statement on Thursday, was taken in view of the matter being sub judice. The Gauhati High Court has already issued a stay order on further recruitment processes by the department.
The NMSA stated that it continues to uphold the judiciary in the highest regard and expressed confidence that the court will deliver a “fair and just verdict” in the interest of all stakeholders.

It also clarified that no writ petition was filed by the association in its official capacity. The petition presently before the court was filed by some members in their individual capacity. While the writ petition was dismissed on August 1, 2025, the association noted that an appeal has since been admitted by the court.
Reiterating its stand, the NMSA said it remains committed to the principles of meritocracy and to ensuring fair and equal opportunities in public recruitment for all medical professionals and aspirants.
