DIMAPUR — A man identified as Tsangli, a resident of Kiusam town in Kiphire district and originally from Pokphur village, died of electrocution on October 7 at Hokishe-yam-vong, reportedly after coming into contact with a live primary wire.

According to a press release, the incident occurred at around 2 pm when the victim had gone to collect Allium tricoccum, a medicinal plant commonly known as ramp.

When he failed to return home, his wife alerted neighbours, and a search was launched. The search party later found him around 7 pm, charred to death near the spot where a guy-anchor nut was reportedly touching a high-voltage primary wire supplying power to five villages.

The deceased is survived by his wife and five children. The matter has been reported to both the electrical and police departments.

Residents of the area claimed they had observed sparks from the same electric post for several months prior to the incident, the release stated, urging the authorities to conduct regular inspections of power lines and equipment to prevent such incidents in the future.
